Junky Junk Journal - Linked Tutorial

Here's a look at my dirty, grungy, beat up junk journal.  I made it last year using Diana Trout's Duct Tape Journal tutorial.  I 'll place a link on my tutorial page.

When I first saw the video I was ready to make one, but didn't have the materials.  I improvised!  Instead of duct tape I doubled up masking tape for my binding.  I've also, added more signatures via string, ribbon, and tape.

This baby holds up well.  I'm already gathering materials together to make another one  This one is well over full.   I love the chunkiness of it all!

 The grunge of it all is perfect because I pull this out around my children.  So if they decide to scribble on a page or tear (by accident ☺), it's okay because it's not like it's a work of art.

Working in this book has helped my artistic expression greatly.  I'm not so worried about technique or if it looks good or not.  I just write it down, color it, glue it or do whatever I feel like doing.

Here's another look inside:

Playing around. I sketched the girl from a hair salon magazine. I tried to add sunglasses, but that didn't work out. lol!   I used markers, watercolors, and pen.  The page bases are a coloring book page and copy paper.
As always, your comments are always appreciated.

Enjoy your week!

Rankom Acts of Kindness (RAK)

Sometime this summer I received a RAK from Annie . It was an awesome fabric bookmark.  She made a bunch for her birthday or blog's birthday and offered to send them out to anyone who wanted one.  I am a fan of her work and I immediately requested one.

Here's what she sent:

See the amazing fabric business card too!  It's absolutely beautiful and the pictures doesn't do it justice.  I keep it in my bible and I use her business card as a bookmark as well.

So last week I go to the post office and find another bookmark from Annie.  It was such a nice surprise!  She sent it as a thank you for the giveaway she received from me that she inspired in the first place.  How's that for serendipity?

Here's a picture front and back.  She made it in Columbia and embellished it here in the states using found objects during her travels here.  I'm in love with it!

Annie makes these wonderful fabric books as well.  One day I'll be able to afford one of her beautiful fabric books.  Today I am fortunate to have two of her fabric bookmarks, which are truly works of art.

Thanks Annie!

Time is God's way of keeping everything from happening at once.

Last week felt like everything was happening all in one day.  Well guess what?  I survived.  God really doesn't give us more than we can handle.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
Ecclesiastes 3 1 - 11

Day 1 - A Bitter Pill

Let's try again!

There's a bitter pill I must take in my personal life.right now.  I was at first resistant and then my husband reminded me of the joy I must take in ALL THINGS.  Therefore, not only must I take this pill, I must chew it before I swallow..

So unexpected...

The next few days I don't know what I'll be blogging about.  I want to share it with the new community of online friends that I have acquired.  My stats show me that I have a few readers. :)

Hopefully, you will keep reading and leave words of encouragement, which I find myself in need of now.

Until Blessed!

October 7 - Tea Time

Here's a look at a two page spread in my junk journal.  When I say junk journal I mean it in every way.  It's made wholly of  recycled materials.It has 150 pages front and back,  which does not include pockets and flip outs.

It's pretty intense!

It's ugly, junky, grungy, and plain ole dirty.  But I love it!  I put most of my ideas in this journal.

I'm hoping to take some pictures and share with you.  It's way too many pages for me to share them all with you.  Maybe I'll share my top 20 and that will give you at least a 10 percent glimpse into my journal.

Anyway, here is Tea Time:

A two page junk journal spread from Toupti's Anonymous Tea Trade at Swapbot.  One of the sweetest envelopes I've received.  In it there were 2 tea bags one is in the spread, a recipe card for muffins, and a this sweet little note card.

Front of envelope.

Sorry for the scan.  My camera battery died and I wanted to share.

October 6 - Mail Art/Pen Pals

This year one of my goals was to meet "New Friends."   I started having children late in age and most of my peers are either grandparents or have young adults and so our lifestyles are drastically different.  Our friendships eventually faded as most transitory friendships do.

Women who had small children like I do were generally much younger than I and we couldn't meet in the middle with our obvious generation gap.  Thus, I have been a member of the Friends of the Friendless club for a while.

Early this year I placed an ad in Inky Trail News which led me to meet some really beautiful women that I consider to be my friend.  We write each other every week or twice a month.  We are learning about each other in intimate ways.  I love this form of friendship that I have run across.  I've also met some wonderful women on Swapbot that I write back and forth with.

I've found that my pen pals are mail artist unknowingly!  The time they take in the letter writing, the penmanship and decorating the envelope is just wonderful.  Even the little tuck ins are a work of art.

I don't have any pictures posted because I didn't have time to take pictures and post today.  I will post soon so that you can see the awesome mail art I receive from my pen pals.

Tomorrow I will open up my junk journal to you.  If you want to see it.

Until Blessed!

I have designed a nice little Pinterest Mail Art board.  It has over 50 pins.  Why don't you stop by for some mail art inspiration?

Tomorrow I will talk about pen pals and the unknown mail artist I've found through them.

October 3 - More Mail Art Received

I joined Swapbot in April of this year and caught hold of the Mail Art bug.  I love this art medium because it's nice to receive something in the mail besides bills and junk mail AND I get a chance to receive beautiful art from all over the world!  Love it!

SusiCreates sent this wonderful collage envelope for a swap titled One Stamp Mail Art ( This is a swap to send your partner one envelope-any size, fill it with something(s) your partner can use (like craft paper, ATC backs, an ATC, stickers, images, recipes, cards, etc), decorate the envelope in some way (paint it, collage it, sticker it,use a magazine page, bookmarks, etc) and then mail it using only one stamp)  I love it!  I thought the address label was so clever and she included a sweet little ephemera packet for me.  So nice!

While browsing Pinterest I ran across a fabulous mail artist's blog.   He's quite clever in how he sends his mail.  I've already added him to my blog roll.  Stop by and visit to find clever mail art.

Until Blessed!

October 1 - Test Run

Okay, Friday was a test run. :o  Today officially begins my blog everyday for 30 days.  I'm going to try and set up as many auto posts as I can.  That's how I have to do it with 2 tots and a 10 year old that we homeschool.  Whew!

I've been away waaaay too long and I didn't get a chance to share the beautiful mail art I've received over the summer.  Today begins my series of Mail Art 2012.  I'm completely addicted and have acquired some beautiful art from all over. Have you participated in this art form?  I just started this year and am amazed at the talented and friendly ladies I have met.  I've also been penpaling too.  I can't wait to share!

I sent this envelope to Canada for a lover of the pacific ocean.  Being a California girl I could understand her love of the ocean and wanted to portray it in this envelope.  She "got it."  She loved it!  I'm always nervous when sending out my art.  I hope that the recipient "gets" the message I'm attempting to porgray.  The responses I've been getting from the recipients are wonderful. I will be doing more this fall for sure.

Tomorrow I will share what I have received over the summer

Until then...Be Blessed!
